After the mysterious deaths of their parents, Jake Gaddy and his sister, Joanna, are hostile to the notion of a good and loving God. In their separate ways, they search for something else to believe in, something that will answer their questions and give their lives meaning. Jake's involvement with a spiritist and his followers is the beginning of a perilous journey for both Joanna and himself.
